Mario’s
Nestled in The Grove complex you’ll find the fine dining restaurant, Mario’s. Primarily, it is known for it’s exquisite wine selection and 5-course blind tasting menu that is changed weekly by the talented Chef Alison Bieber. Using locally sourced products, as much as possible, the pattern of the meal tends to be an amuse bouche, a raw local fish preparation, soup course, stuffed pasta, steak or fish and dessert. This can always change because each dish that comes to the table is a surprise and explained to you only after it touches the table. Unlike other tasting menus, I love that Mario’s ensures that guests leave satiated and satisfied and their portion sizes are spot on. When you reserve your table and time on their website, you can choose their ‘Signature Experience’ and elevate it even further. This includes adding a sommelier selected wine pairing, choosing a specialty cut of steak, opting for an osetra caviar starter or a curated garden experience before or after dinner.
Some may see it as a splurge, but if you want to experience Mario’s at a lower price I suggest booking their ‘3 Course Experience’. They offer this menu only between 5-6pm or after 8pm, and they still offer an add-on of a 3-wine pairing at a reduced rate too. If you want to just enjoy the atmosphere of Mario’s without all the fuss, then you can choose to sit at their small, cozy bar or grab a booth on their lush patio, where you can enjoy wine, cocktails and tapas.
Since opening in 2023 it has made a significant mark on Cayman’s restaurant scene by winning multiple awards at the Best of Cayman Islands competition in 2024 and 2025. In both years, Chef Alison Bieber was awarded Cayman’s ‘Best Chef’, which is huge accomplishment since at the time she was quite new to island. Other categories they thrived in for these awards in 2024 and 2025, with a mix of gold and silver awards, include ‘Best Wine Bar’, ‘Best Fine Dining Restaurant’, ‘Best Special Occasion Restaurant’ and ‘Romantic Restaurant’ categories. The dining experience is wonderful as they offer impeccable service, conversations with the sommelier and a table touch by Mario if he’s around.
Epicurean Tip: The 5-course tasting menu must be reserved and paid for in advance through their website, the first restaurant to do this in Cayman. Choose add-ons that you’d like to be a part of your meal in advance (caviar, steak, garden experience) so they can plan ahead, but the wine pairing can be decided on the night of your meal.
